The Crochet
25 year old Tina reached home after a tiring day at work. She made a cup of coffee for herself and sat on the couch to watch TV. The crochet coaster on the table grabbed her attention. It was so lovingly made by her mother, simple yet so precise. She went back few years in her thoughts. Once her mother asked , are you happy with your life ? She chuckled at that time and said, of course I am. Life is fast paced and not as slow as was yours.
But was it true ? Yes, it was but only partially.
She dreams of a vegetable garden, though her whole living space equals the one her mom had
She is connected 24/7 with the world unlike her mom
But yes..she isn’t connected to herself unlike her mom
Her phone is her full time companion unlike her mom’s that was stuck at a corner of the house
Her television is flat and curvy unlike the big fat one her mom had
Her car is speedy and pricey unlike her mom’s
She exercises in the gym regularly unlike her mom who had great fresh outdoors to run
She orders fish from the restaurant next door but dreams of catching one on a fishing trip with her dad
Her Fitbit tells her how many kms she ran unlike the sweet conversations that she had while running with her dad
Her digital account keeps track of her engagements unlike her mom who had a journal
Her mattress has the latest sleep technology yet she dreams of sleeping under the star lit skies
She chats with her brother daily over the phone unlike her mom who used to write letters to her siblings
She showers daily yet wishes to chase the sprinkler in the lawn on a sunny day
She wears Chanel yet her favorite aroma is the petrichor
The Hawaiian lava shot out through the fissures of her eyes..
