Fall in My hometown
My childhood friend visits her Mom
It’s been three months I haven’t seen her, she says
How are you? Any plans to visit the city?, she asked
No, nothing yet. I say
Suddenly, she seems luckier to me
Three years ago I visited my mom
When she asked, when will you see me next?
I laughed her off
only now I so long to see her and my hometown
With Fall around, mischievous Maple is at its best,
for fresh new year, nature is winding down to rest
crisp dry leaves, whistling louder than trees
Blue Jays sits tight on Cedar, swings and sings
this fall wind can make everyone dance and freeze
Sara and Williams sit next to their fire pit
their burning wood reminds me of the bonfire we lit
Bonfire, our childhood excuse, to get out in cold winter nights
we sang, we danced, sipping hot tea with frozen hands
even in summer days, this odor reminds me of cold winter nights
Early morning fog on the window is still a delight
together, we made smileys, some angry ones too
when sunshine kissed the fog and it melt,
it was another pleasure to watch those faces go
But this fall is unusual too
Leaves are falling but the virus is growing
‘Second wave,’ here it is, are we ready?
I bet, we are not
for now, the pleasure of bonfire nights seems short
